    Sir Dermot Turing, the nephew of Alan Turing—the mathematician, philosopher and computer scientist who was the subject of the film, The Imitation Game—gave a talk about his uncle’s life and achievements during RIT’s Brick City Weekend. The talk was part of the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences Dean’s Lecture Series and the College of Science Distinguished Lecture Series.

    Amanda White modeled a creation by Kibaek Sung, a graduate student in the metals and jewelry design program from South Korea, at Fashion Week in Rochester. 20 SAC students modeled jewelry during RIT’s portion of the runway show, featuring the theme “jewelry in motion.” It marked the university’s most significant presence in the several years that the metals and jewelry design program has been involved In Fashion Week, which is The Center for Youth’s largest annual fundraiser. Nearly $700,000 was raised for the organization’s homeless youth shelters and crisis services.

    Nancy Munson, wife of RIT President David C. Munson Jr., modeled jewelry on the runway during the 8th Annual Fashion Week of Rochester on Oct. 12. She was wearing a piece designed by Leonard Urso, the Ann Mowris Mulligan Distinguished Professor in the School for American Crafts (SAC) within RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences. In addition to Nancy Munson, 20 SAC students modeled self-designed jewelry during RIT’s portion of the runway show, featuring the theme “jewelry in motion.” It marked the university’s most significant presence in the several years that the metals and jewelry design program has been involved In Fashion Week, which is The Center for Youth’s largest annual fundraiser.     Saunders College of Business celebrated the decade-long support of its namesake, entrepreneur/philanthropist E. Philip Saunders, during a wall dedication ceremony that also highlighted the new state-of-the-art Business Analytics Lab and the REDCOM and Philip R. Tyler learning collaborative classrooms at RIT’s Lowenthal Hall. Saunders cited friends, family, faculty including Prof. Daniel Tessoni, alumni, and the vision of Dean Jacqueline Mozrall as being instrumental in raising the bar in business education—resulting in “worldwide recognition and high rankings for Saunders College.”

    From left, Michael Owens ’17, Daniel Vasta ’18, Meg Oliphant ’17, Brittainy Newman ’18 and Joey Ressler ’18 attended the prestigious Eddie Adams Workshop last weekend. Five RIT photojournalism students were among the 100 selected from around the world for the intense four-day workshop in Jeffersonville, N.Y., the most from any university represented. The Eddie Adams Workshop, named after the late Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, celebrated 30 years of gathering leading professionals and promising students for a series of speakers, shooting assignments and portfolio reviews. And 30 years of celebrating the power of photography.

    RIT Professor Luvon Sheppard teaches a watercolor painting class to graduate students in the College of Imaging Arts & Sciences. Sheppard was a member of the first Master of Science for Teachers (MST) program in 1970 at RIT.

    Natasha Shorrock, center, a second-year psychology major from Mattapoisett, Mass., painted hockey pucks with Megan Gryboski, a second-year software engineering student from Lebanon, Pa., at the Trucks & Pucks event on Oct. 7. The RIT College Activities Board hosted a pre-hockey game event to celebrate the first game of the season. There were hockey-related activities and meals from food trucks for attendees.

    Tim Torres, a fifth-year new media design student from Hershey, Pa., scheduled an oral exam with Bonnie McDermott, a dental hygienist at the SMILEmobile. RIT students now can get oral care on campus with regular visits from the SMILEmobile from the Eastman Institute for Oral Care. A variety of services are available, including x-rays, exams, cleanings, fillings and extractions. This is particularly useful for international students who are so far from home.
