Photography professor Michael Peres has an exhibit, âSnowflakes Up Close,â at the Rochester Museum & Science Center through April 30. The exhibit area, set up to be similar to Peresâ garage where he does his work, includes a microscope, photographic prints of snowflakes and pages from his recent childrenâs book, Michael Photographs a Snowflake. His snowflake photography has been featured in Time, The Weather Channel and CNN. More examples can be seen on his Instagram @michael_peres. -

Students, faculty and staff braved the cold March 5 to participate in Ellieâs 5k Run/Walk, in honor of former RIT/NTID staff member Ellie Rosenfield. Participants also were involved in games of skill, yoga and other activities throughout the day. Eleanor (Ellie) Rosenfield, associate dean for Student and Academic Services at RIT/NTID, died on March 7, 2010, after a two-year battle with lymphoma. -

Incoming RIT President David C. Munson Jr. hosted an open forum on Feb. 28. A second forum will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 2 in Ingle Auditorium. While on campus, Munson also attended a Student Government meeting and will attend Staff Council and Academic Senate meetings. -

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren answers questions from students in a public speaking class in the College of Liberal Arts Feb. 27. She said the rise of popularity of social media does not replace face-to-face conversations, which the students will need for job interviews. Although she admits she still gets nervous speaking in public, it helps to be prepared and know your audience, she said. -

The annual WiC Hacks all-women hackathon, hosted by RITâs Women in Computing group Feb. 25 and 26, helps support young women interested in the field of computing. For the 24-hour hackathon, teams worked together to create mobile apps, websites, games and other software that provide unique solutions to problems. The annual event is open to college and high school women of all skill levelsâfrom those who have never programmed to coding experts.
