UPDATE: 3:30 p.m. Nov. 5: Work expected to be complete this evening: Residence Halls and some NTID buildings remain offline

UPDATE: 12:10 p.m. Nov. 5: Includes updated information on elevator operation, Margaret's House, Perkins Green apartments, and generator operation.

In order to resolve the recent power outage, RIT Facilities Management Services (FMS) personnel and outside contractors plan to cut power today (Friday, Nov. 5) to the following buildings during the times listed:

Power Outage 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Elevators will be offline beginning at 12:30 p.m.

  • Ellingson Hall
  • Peterson Hall
  • Building 50C (including Margaret’s House)
  • Rosica Hall
  • Shumway Dining/SDC
  • LBJ Hall

Power Outage 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Elevators will be offline beginning at 2:30 p.m.

  • Baker Hall
  • Colby Hall
  • Kate Gleason Hall
  • Fish Hall
  • Nathaniel Rochester Hall
  • Sol Heumann Hall
  • Gibson Hall

Power to the Perkins Green apartments will not be disrupted as a part of either outage listed above.

We understand the disruption this has caused for students, faculty, and staff. We appreciate your patience as FMS personnel and outside contractors continue repair work. We have identified the cause as a faulty splice in a medium voltage distribution feeder cable.

During this phase of the work to restore permanent power, the generators will be offline, and no power will be available to those buildings. Once the work is completed, we anticipate full power being restored. The generators will remain available for reconnection in case there are unexpected disruptions. Please use only essential electrical items (e.g., lights, computer) until full power is restored. For information on a particular building’s power status, visit maps.rit.edu and click “power status” in the drop-down menu.

All unaffected academic buildings and most dining hall facilities are open during regular operating hours with Wi-Fi available. Hours of operation are listed on the Dining website. Students are encouraged to use other spaces during the planned power outages later today.

Please only reach out to RIT Public Safety in case of emergency. We will provide periodic updates as available.
