RIT mourns the loss of engineering student

Dear members of the RIT community,

It pains me deeply to inform you of the loss of one of our own.

A second-year student in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering passed away last evening due to injuries sustained by a fall.

Our team has been in contact with the student's family to offer our support. The family has asked that we respect their need for privacy during this difficult time. No funeral or memorial service arrangements are available at this time, however, if you wish to send a personalized message offering your condolences, you can send your message directly to my attention at ssjvsa@rit.edu or drop it off at my office located in the Student Alumni Union (SAU), Suite 2410. My office will send the messages to the family.

The Student Counseling and Psychological Services (585-475-2261) staff and the chaplains in Spirituality and Religious Life (585-475-2135) are available in person or by phone for classmates, friends and members of the RIT community who are in need of support or wish to share their feelings of loss. For after-hours counseling services support, students can speak to a mental health specialist by calling 1-855-436-1245. For after-hours emergencies, please contact the RIT Department of Public Safety at 585-475-3333.

This devastating news has affected many of us in the RIT community. We all play a role in helping each other through this challenging time. Be active in our Tigers Care community – connect with friends and classmates, invite a friend to join you for dinner, sit with someone new at the coffee shop, and remember that RIT staff and faculty are always available to lend an ear.

Sincerely,
Dr. Sandra (Sandy) Johnson
Senior Vice President for Student Affairs
