RIT’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences Hosts Holiday Auction, Dec. 20

Part of proceeds raised will be donated to two area non-profit organizations

Holiday shopping will be both fun and rewarding as people are invited to come out to Rochester Institute of Technology and be part of a festive auction, hosted by RIT’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences on Thursday, Dec. 20. The event is free and open to the public.

A portion of the proceeds from the annual event will be donated to The Boys and Girls Club of Rochester and the Rochester Rehabilitation Center’s Ventures Program.

Items up for bid range include cameras, photographic equipment, lighting kits, film, software, restaurant and spa gift certificates, and tickets to the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Geva Theatre and the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Bidding gets underway at 5 p.m. in the lobby of the Frank E. Gannett Building, on RIT’s campus.

In addition to the live auction, faculty- and staff-donated artwork will be offered in a silent auction.

The remainder of the monies raised will benefit the Graduate Photography Association (GPA) at RIT. Photography students in GPA host fundraising events, participate in community service projects, group critiques and a yearly trip to the annual conference of the Society for Photographic Education.

The students are coordinating the auction and have been working with area businesses to obtain items. Potential bidders of all ages are invited to take part. Bill DuBois, administrative chair of the school’s photographic arts program, will be the auctioneer.

Free pizza and soft drinks will be served. For more information, call RIT’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences at (585) 475-2770.
