Team publishes article on extreme sea levels

Hannah Sheets, fourth-year applied statistics major, and lead author Tony Wong, assistant professor in the School of Mathematical Sciences, along with Travis Torline, University of Colorado Boulder, and Mingxuan Zhang, Purdue University, published “Evidence for Increasing Frequency of Extreme Coastal Sea Levels” in the journal Frontiers in Climate. The researchers used a set of tide gauge stations along the U.S. East and Gulf coasts to show that the evidence for increasing frequency of extreme sea levels is strong across a range of commonly used statistical models for extreme sea levels.
