As a business team leader at the company’s Pennsylvania plant, Trauger oversees operations on the cab-over line, where the refuse collection trucks are assembled, with a focus on safety, quality, and delivery.

The NTID Alumni Association is pleased to announce the three new board members: Meredith Lipman, Jerald Cohen, and Doug Baker. 

RIT/NTID alum Kayley Judd ’25 demonstrated notable achievements throughout her academic journey. Judd was a student leader who advocated for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education, served as a mentor for fellow students, and organized STEM-related events and conferences to inspire the next generation of engineers and empower women.

Happy Fall! It’s hard to believe that fall is already upon us—and the NTIDAA Board of Directors will meet on campus again during Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend. Meanwhile, here is a recap of our spring meeting.

Researchers from RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf have identified an AED that includes visual and text prompts, making it accessible for deaf and hard-of-hearing users and those not familiar with the English language.

Caroline M. Solomon, dean of faculty at Gallaudet University, has been named president of Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf and vice president of RIT. She will begin her tenure at RIT/NTID on Aug. 18.

Phoenix, Arizona, businessman and RIT/NTID alumnus Mark Mellenger has committed $1.5 million to establish The Mark Mellenger Endowed Scholarship Fund, with an additional $25,000  pledged to the college’s Sentinel Society. The commitment is the largest by a graduate in NTID history.

CEOs, Chief Financial Officers, and Chief Technology Officers are among the 12 RIT alumni honored with Distinguished Alumni Awards for the 2024-2025 year.

During Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend, Big Tigers on Campus interviewed RIT/NTID alums Peter and Cindy Pickering and their daughter, RIT student-athlete and CODA, Emma Pickering, a member of RIT’s Division I Women’s Hockey Team. They discussed why Emma, who is majoring in exercise science, chose to play hockey, why she picked RIT for college, and her experience being involved in the Deaf and CODA communities.

NTID President Gerard Buckley, who made history as the first RIT/NTID alumnus to become president of the college, has announced his intention to step down in summer 2025 after leading the National Technical Institute for the Deaf for 15 years. His tenure as NTID president caps a career in higher education spanning more than 40 years.

Bob Mather will forever remember the summer of 1970. He was attending a visual performance in American Sign Language at RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf and Sue Mozzer was signing.
