NTIDAA welcomes three new board members

The NTID Alumni Association is pleased to announce the three new board members: Meredith Lipman, Jerald Cohen, and Doug Baker. 

Meredith Lipman, American Sign Language and Interpreting Education (NTID), ’17

  • Currently located in: West Chester, Pennsylvania
  • Employment: Freelance Sign Language Interpreter and Administrative Assistant, SIGNINterpreting Services
  • What did you enjoy doing when you were a student on campus? “As an RIT/NTID student, I enjoyed participating in RIT Players, RIT/NTID Dance Company, and NTID Performing Arts. On campus, I worked one year of SVP behind the scenes and was an orientation leader in my junior and senior years. Off campus, I worked at the Strong Museum (Character Actor) and enjoyed line dancing at Nashville’s with deaf and hearing friends.”

Jerald Cohen, SVP ’76, ’80, Social Work (CLA)

  • Currently located in: Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
  • Employment: Retired, previously worked as social worker, counselor, evaluator, educator, and in management and program development with stints in food services and real estate 
  • Tell me a fun fact about yourself: “I have been happily married to husband Eric Beer for 36 years. I am a huge foodie—I love to shop for food, cook up a storm, and try out different things. My husband and I love to travel and meet new people.”

Doug Baker, SVP ’07, ’12, Advertising Photography (CAD)

  • Currently located in: Rochester, New York
  • Employment: National Relay Enterprise Manager, Sorenson
  • What activities did you participate in when you were a student on campus? “As a student, I founded Tiger’s Next Top Model, re-established Tiger Media, and was the vice president of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.”

NTIDAA is looking forward to working with each of these new members who will bring ideas and experience to make valuable contributions to the future growth and success of the RIT/NTID community.

RIT/NTID alum Kayley Judd ’25 demonstrated notable achievements throughout her academic journey. Judd was a student leader who advocated for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education, served as a mentor for fellow students, and organized STEM-related events and conferences to inspire the next generation of engineers and empower women.

Happy Fall! It’s hard to believe that fall is already upon us—and the NTIDAA Board of Directors will meet on campus again during Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend. Meanwhile, here is a recap of our spring meeting.

Researchers from RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf have identified an AED that includes visual and text prompts, making it accessible for deaf and hard-of-hearing users and those not familiar with the English language.

Caroline M. Solomon, dean of faculty at Gallaudet University, has been named president of Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf and vice president of RIT. She will begin her tenure at RIT/NTID on Aug. 18.
