Larwan Berke and Brendan John, graduate students in RIT’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, each received a three-year, $34,000 annual stipend from the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program. -

As the coordinator of RIT/NTID’s traveling performance troupe Sunshine 2.0, Beam connects performing arts and science, technology, engineering and math—or STEM—themes, for deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing children and adults around the country.

End of presidential era
Under Bill Destler’s leadership, RIT’s enrollment has reached record levels, selectivity and diversity have improved, the value of research awards has skyrocketed and geographic draw continues to widen. But his strong relationship with students is the key piece of his legacy.
