RIT is making it easier for military veterans and their families to attend college by opening the Office of Veteran Student Success. While RIT has long offered support to veterans, this is the first time a central office and space has been dedicated to support them.

Eleven RIT alumni have been awarded Distinguished Alumni Awards for the 2022-2023 year. It is the highest award an RIT college can bestow upon its alumni and recognizes alumni who have performed at the highest levels of their profession or who have contributed to the advancement and leadership of civic, philanthropic, or service organizations. The 2022-2023 recipients will be honored during presentations throughout the academic year.

A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist will deliver the keynote address at RIT’s annual celebration of the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. Nikole Hannah-Jones, creator of The 1619 Project and a staff writer at The New York Times Magazine, will headline RIT’s 41st Expressions of King’s Legacy.

Applications being developed at RIT using artificial intelligence vary from sophisticated medical monitoring devices to the development of autonomous systems for Indy racecars. These represent some of the exciting and complex work underway at the university that will be featured prominently at the AI@RIT Summit: Discovering and Harnessing the Breadth and Depth of Artificial Intelligence at RIT.

RIT will host an in-person job fair in downtown Rochester for people interested in career opportunities at the university. The RIT Job Fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the RIT Center for Urban Entrepreneurship, located at 40 Franklin St.

Nathan Williams, an assistant professor in sustainability whose research focuses on African energy systems, will play a key role in a project made possible by a $5.5 million grant from the Rockefeller Foundation to accelerate development and promote climate resilient infrastructure investment across sub-Saharan Africa.

After five years of collaboration and production, the neonatal transport ambulance designed by RIT’s Hope for Honduras team has hit the ground in Honduras. The ambulance will help save countless young lives by greatly enhancing medical access to neonatal care for those living in rural areas of the country.

Peter Hogya, a computer science major in RIT’s Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, was honored with the Herbert W. Vanden Brul Student Entrepreneurial Award at last week’s Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Award Luncheon at Genesee Valley Club in Rochester.

The outside of RIT’s Brown Hall looks the same, but inside everything has changed. Once the final details are settled, Brown Hall will house new laboratories for genomics, computer engineering, and soil and traffic studies, as well as several computer facilities and office space.
