A Day in the Life of a Graduate Student Liaison (remote edition)

A Day in a Life of Graduate Student Liaison (remote edition)

Amidst the COVID 19 Pandemic, I started working part-time and remotely in the Office of Graduate Admissions as a Graduate Student Liaison. The office is located building 77 Bausch & Lomb Center, Admissions and Career Services. This is a Day in my Life Pandemic Edition:

Early Morning:

At 6:30 am, I snooze the alarm one more time and finally manage to get out of bed. While making my bed, I start to mentally prepare a list of things today today. Drink a cup of warm water + lemon slice. It gives me the boost of energy.

Rolled on my Yoga mat and begin stretching. I am currently doing 30-day Yoga with Adriene Challenge, today is Day 17th.  A good 30 minute Yoga session allows me to connect with my mind, body & soul. Out of a quick shower and grabbing an Apple and soothing cup of green tea for my breakfast.

Bausch and Lomb

Shift Hours:

I work from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Checking on my work email and going through Rochester Institute of Technology's Office of International Enrollment WhatsApp group to answer questions from students.

One of the exiting parts of this job is 1:1 appointments with admitted students where I get to answer questions and talk to students from all over the world in 15 minute time slots. I address the questions and queries that they have for me about RIT, campus life and many other topics.

I also reply to the students reaching out with questions via email. Prospective students interested in studying at RIT also reach out with questions about life at RIT, questions specific to courses, finding housing on-campus or off-campus. I also work on short projects and participate in webinars for our incoming international students. It is an amazing experience talking to students from all around the Globe. Quickly, its 12:30 PM already.

Afternoon/Evening:

At 1 pm I have Lunch with my roommates, catching up with my favorite TV series ‘The Office’.

Then to get ready for my class, I pre-read and then attend the class online on zoom. After the class I catch up with my work, personal blog, applications, and prepare for an upcoming interview for a co-operative education placement or internship.

In the evening, I meet with my Project team on zoom call. We brainstorm and work on the project. After evening, my productivity has pretty much drained.

Night:

Around 9 pm after dinner, gearing up for Rochester’s weather outside, I catch up with my friends and we go for a short walk, while following all COVID-19 protocols. I talk with my family who are overseas on a video call.

After a productive day, I am plugging in my laptop, phone for a charge up. While I grab my kindle and continue my current read ‘Ikigai’ (link). And its light out at 11 pm.
