Actress Victoria Rowell to Discuss Women in Media
Former television actress and author discusses career at campus event
Victoria Rowell
The portrayal of women in the media, both positively and negatively, will be the topic of discussion during award-winning actress and New York Times best-selling author Victoria Rowell’s visit to Rochester Institute of Technology.
Rowell will lead a discussion from noon to 1 p.m. March 29 in Ingle Auditorium, Student Alumni Union, on RIT’s campus. A book-signing in the lobby of Ingle will precede the lecture from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The event is free but registration is required. Seating is limited.
Rowell is an actress, advocate, mother, former foster child and now best-selling author. Her memoir, The Women Who Raised Me, received The African American Literary Award and two NAACP Image Award nominations in the literary category. She is best known for her TV roles in Diagnosis Murder (Dr. Amanda Bentley) and in the Young and the Restless (Drucilla Winters).
As a woman in the media spotlight, Rowell has first-hand experience with how women are portrayed across various mediums. She is able to draw from her real life experiences and her unique perspective and will share these with RIT and the Rochester community.
The event is part of the Paul & Louise Miller Lecture Series in RIT’s School of Print Media.
