Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Ultrasound) BS

The alliance aims to enhance programming in the university’s College of Health Sciences and Technology and prepare healthcare professionals to enter the workforce.

Hayley Bartkus and Christina Werth created EchoMentor as an educational platform for healthcare professionals working in sonography or ultrasound, a medical imaging method that uses sound waves to peer inside the body.

Two RIT students graduating next week continue their family legacies while pioneering unique paths in their fields.

Twelve RIT alumni have been honored with Distinguished Alumni Awards for the 2023-2024 year. The Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented annually by each of RIT’s nine colleges, the School of Individualized Study, and the RIT Graduate School to alumni who have performed at the highest levels of their profession or who have contributed to the advancement and leadership of civic, philanthropic, or service organizations.

Jenny Kron ’15 was 37 years old with three kids and a mortgage when she enrolled in RIT’s diagnostic medical sonography program full time. Prior to that, she ran an at-home daycare for 13 years. Now, she is running her own successful mobile ultrasound business called Hey, Baby! Mobile 4D Ultrasound.

RIT’s College of Health Sciences and Technology is preparing for significant growth with a new streamlined organizational structure. The move clarifies direct reporting and aligns the college with the university’s model of grouping programs under departments.

The students took a 12-week, online class prior to their 11-day visit to the two countries of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in May, to talk with survivors of the 1991-1999 war in the former Yugoslavia region of Europe.

The diagnostic medical sonography program at RIT was awarded continuing accreditation in compliance with national standards and guidelines established by the profession.

Nearly 60 students will graduate this May from the College of Health Sciences and Technology’s clinical programs—physician assistant BS/MS, diagnostic medical sonography BS, and the echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound) certificate program. These students spend the final year of their programs immersed in practical work experience at clinics and hospitals in the region.

The Tiger Testing team employs nearly 90 students from across campus, with about 25 students majoring in degrees in the College of Health Sciences and Technology.

RIT’s College of Health Sciences and Technology began the year under new leadership with Dean Yong “Tai” Wang. Wang joined RIT in January from the University of Texas at Tyler. His research focuses on rehabilitative biomechanics related to wheelchair locomotion and Tai Chi exercise.

Jessica Salamone ’99 (biotechnology), an adjunct professor in the College of Health Sciences and Technology and director of Genetic Counseling and Cancer Risk Assessment at Elizabeth Wende Breast Care in Rochester, is the recipient of this year's Outstanding Teaching Award for Non-Tenure-Track Faculty.
