For Metaproject 11, senior industrial design students will spend the semester designing products for Staach, which focuses on functional sustainable design. Nabiha Raza’s software engineering career started at the National University of Sciences and Technology in Islamabad, Pakistan. Today, she is getting her Masters in Computer Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York and in her last semester at RIT. She researched how wearables can detect spinal cord reflexes and was twice an intern at Aruba. Her interest lies in networking, distributed systems and cloud computing. In January 2021, Nabiha will be joining us back as a full-time software developer engineer for the High Touch Services Team. She’s also a big home improvement and home automation fan!

Michael Guglielmo never envisioned that he would spend a summer co-op helping his university prepare to fight off a pandemic. But the fifth-year student from Henrietta, N.Y., pursuing his BS in industrial engineering and ME in industrial and systems engineering helped put measures in place that will make everyone who sets foot on campus this fall safer.

The Cybersecurity Visiting Student Research program brought together 12 graduate and undergraduate students throughout the summer to explore new cyber research and share their cultural experiences. Visiting students came from Italy, the Netherlands, India, Taiwan, Poland, United Kingdom, and the U.S.

Tiffany Panko, M.D., has been named director of the Deaf Health Laboratory in the Research Center on Culture and Language at NTID. Panko, an alumna of RIT who received support from NTID, earned her undergraduate degree in applied arts and sciences, with concentrations in premedical and psychological studies, in 2008. She earned her MBA from Saunders College of Business in 2009, and her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2016.

More than 80 first-year RIT students from underrepresented populations began their college careers early and from home this summer. The students participated in the Division of Diversity and Inclusion (DDI) Summer Experience, a five-week program held virtually for the first time this year to help students successfully transition to college.
