Greenwood, a lecturer in CAST, received an award for Outstanding Achievement in Standards Development for her involvement and coordination of new international standards for the environmental management industry.

Lisa Greenwood, lecturer at Rochester Institute of Technology, was recently presented an award for Outstanding Achievement in Standards Development for exceptional contributions in the development of the International Organization for Standards’ flagship environmental management standard, ISO 14001. The award was presented in Washington, D.C., by the U.S. Technical Advisory Group for ISO’s Environmental Management Technical Committee. The award also recognized her leadership and work in developing an international survey on continual improvement of ISO 14001, the results of which have informed the ongoing revision of the international standard.

“Receiving this award was a particular distinction, since it came from a group of environmental management experts and standards developers for whom I have the highest respect,” said Greenwood. “The work of the TAG 207 Advisory Group is extremely important for environmental management and sustainability, and I’m honored to be a part of it on behalf of RIT.”

Greenwood has participated on the ISO technical committee since 1999 and began representing the U.S. in international meetings in 2006. In 2012, Greenwood and RIT hosted a prestigious meeting of international environmental management leaders to address global environmental management priorities. She led the U.S. delegation at that meeting and helped with the coordination of the revisions to the International Organization for Standardization’s ISO 14001 and 14004 international policies and guidelines.

This past year, she also helped distribute and analyze a survey to environmental management organizations in 110 countries to assess ISO 14001. The full report was recently published and distributed to members this past February.

Greenwood, lecturer in RIT’s College of Applied Science and Technology and a representative on the U.S. advisory group to ISO’s environmental management technical committee, teaches courses in RIT’s environmental sustainability, health and safety program, as well as in the environmental, health and safety management graduate program.
