Students, faculty, and alumni at RIT are participating in NASA’s national Moon to Mars initiative to build a training device and monitoring tool to help make extended space travel healthier for astronauts.

Saunders College of Business faculty, alumni, and students—together with local business leaders—have recognized a popular, longtime professor with the dedication of a multifunctional space inside Max Lowenthal Hall. The Daniel D. Tessoni Business Center honors the esteemed RIT faculty member who served in several roles at the college from 1974 until his retirement last year.

Author and historian Ibram X. Kendi will be the keynote speaker at RIT’s Expressions of King’s Legacy, an annual program dedicated to celebrating the life and impact of Martin Luther King Jr. The 2024 event will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Jan. 30 at RIT’s Gordon Field House.

A new whimsical mural, painted by fourth-year student Emma McCarthy, debuted in the Booth Hall elevator just before the November holiday break. The artwork adds some vibrancy to the formerly dark-colored walls.

The DeafTEC program at RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf has received a renewal grant for $1.6 million to continue its work serving as a resource for high schools and community colleges that educate deaf and hard-of-hearing students in STEM-related programs and for employers hiring deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. 

RIT students can unlock a community through the university’s cybersecurity club, RITSEC. As one of the largest collegiate cybersecurity clubs of its kind, RITSEC helps make RIT a top place for cybersecurity education, training, and research.

The inaugural production in the newest building on the RIT campus, AstroDance II: Across the Universe, premieres Dec. 1 to 3, featuring a variety of dance, aerial and circus arts, and augmented reality, which will be presented in the new state-of-the-art Sklarsky Glass Box Theater.

The Battery Prototyping Center at RIT was awarded nearly $2.2 million through the Empire State Development Grants program to expand its facility. Upgrades and expansion of the center will nearly double its current space, add new equipment, and increase training capacity in the areas of lithium-ion battery research, manufacturing, and development.

The English Language Center helps teach English to international students, from beginners to advanced levels. The classes are open to anyone interested in preparing to enroll in a university.

Billy Brumley has been named the Kevin O’Sullivan Endowed Professor in Cybersecurity at RIT. As part of RIT’s ESL Global Cybersecurity Institute and Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, Brumley will contribute to the university’s growing cybersecurity research profile and lead expertise in side-channel attack analysis.

Emiliano Brini, assistant professor in the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, has received an award from the National Institutes of Health to support his research on building the next generation of drugs. Brini and his team of students will develop computational tools that can predict the strength of the interaction between two proteins and how drugs will modify this interaction.
