    The 6th Rochester Biennial at the Memorial Art Gallery features six artists and two are RIT professors, Richard Hirsch and Juan Carlos Caballero-Perez. Jeff Kell’s ceramic sculptures are included and all three are RIT alumni from the School for American Crafts.     President Bill Destler welcomed back the RIT community Friday by outlining a draft of the Strategic Plan 2025. He said the plan’s proposed vision will elevate RIT with a theme of “Greatness Through Difference.” The final plan will be “ambitious, audacious and very achievable,” he said. Destler is urging more feedback and input on the plan before it is brought to the Board of Trustees for approval in November. For more on the plan, go to www.rit.edu/president/plan2025.

The Aug. 19 move-in is followed by New Student Orientation, a week of programs and activities that ensures students and their families have a successful transition to RIT.     The Gene Polisseni Center is taking shape inside and out. The arena will be the home of the men’s and women’s hockey teams and is expected to be open for play this fall. Season tickets are on sale now and individual game tickets will go on sale August 19.

    The College of Health Sciences and Technology, RIT’s ninth college, is expanding. Construction continues on the 45,000-square-foot facility at the north end of Louise M. Slaughter Hall. The Clinical Health Sciences Center is scheduled to open in fall 2015.

    RIT has more than 70 new faculty for fall semester and all were invited to New Faculty Orientation this week. The agenda included an expo in The Wallace Center, workshops on critical information and RIT culture, as well as a chance to network.
