RIT held a two-day engineering event for young high school women July 17-18. WE Explore included an engineering activity, lectures and inspirational sessions on how engineering impacts society. The marshmallow challenge was a 15 minute exercise to create the tallest freestanding structure with a marshmallow on top using only 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string and one marshmallow. A one-week summer camp this week on video production was part of RITâs Liberty Partnerships Program with Greece Olympia High School. One of the highlights of last Thursdayâs Nathaniel Rochester Society Gala was the dedication of the new NRS Honor Wall on the first floor of The Wallace Center. The mission of NRS is to develop friends and ambassadors to promote and support RIT, and the wall recognizes the more than 970 members of the organization. Cutting the ribbon are, from left, RIT Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations Lisa Cauda, President Bill Destler, NRS Executive Committee Chair Patrick Talty, Library Director Shirley Bower and Associate Provost for Faculty Development and The Wallace Center Lynn Wild. The seventh annual AutismUp iCan Bike Camp is July 7-11 at the Gordon Field House. The camp teaches individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities how to ride a conventional bike without training wheels. Lose the Training Wheels provides specialized bicycle riding equipment, as well as a team of experts. Here, 10-year-old Maura Miles gets support from volunteers Robin Donnelly and Noah Henry. -

The Dyer Arts Center hosts two Rochester artists, Carol Douglas and Stu Chait, in âIntersections: Form, Space, Time & Color.â The exhibit runs through July 30, with an opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 11. -

Sandy Johnson assumed the post of senior vice president for student affairs on July 1. Johnson comes to RIT having served for nearly eight years as vice president for the Division of Student Affairs at Hofstra University. At home, she is currently in âunpacking mode,â having recently moved to the Rochester area with her family. Johnson had a chance to meet a few RIT students who were on campus this week. Jacqueline Mozrall assumes the post of interim dean at Saunders College of Business on July 1. Mozrall is an RIT alumna who is taking a leave from her post as professor and senior associate dean of RITâs Kate Gleason College of Engineering to lead the business college while a national search for a new dean is underway. -

Sixty-seven students graduated from RIT Croatia during a ceremony in Dubrovnik on May 31. RIT Croatia is the only educational institution in Croatia granting two diplomasâa Croatian degree and an American degree from RIT. RIT Croatiaâs enrollment is 578 students across two campuses; 298 students in Zagreb and 280 in Dubrovnik. The Dubrovnik campus offers undergraduate degrees in international hospitality and service management, as well as information technology. The Zagreb campus offers undergraduate degrees in information technology and international business and a graduate degree in service leadership and innovation targeting working professionals. -

Malinda Kay focused on a career in museum studies in the College of Liberal Arts. After graduation this past May, Kay will look into graduate school for museum education or archival work. -

Jon Schull, a research scientist in RITâs MAGIC Center, demonstrates a 3D-printed prosthetic hand and forearm during the Effective Access Technology Conference June 17 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The two-day conference featured speakers, exhibits and poster sessions on ideas and innovative solutions to the challenges in applying technology to improve access for people with a variety of disabilities. Schull created e-NABLE, an online community of 3D printing hobbyists that works to custom design, improve and create affordable prosthetics. -

Will Gunn, the General Counsel for the Department of Veterans Affairs, was one of the keynote speakers at RITâs Effective Access Technology Conference June 17 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The two-day conference features speakers, exhibits and poster sessions on ideas and innovative solutions to the challenges in applying technology to improve access for people with a variety of disabilities. The conference continues June 18.
