RIT President David Munson and his wife, Nancy, both wearing RIT orange, congratulate The Jive, a jazz combo formed in 2023, for the group’s performance of ‘Blacck.’ The Jive won first place and $1,000 in Ovation: RIT Performing Arts Showcase on Feb. 7. The group’s six members are Nicholas Parsons, Isaac Kott, Jeffrey Gross, Troy Wolf, Shane Guasteferro, and 2023 alumna Jessica Panuccio.

Students in packaging science and graphic media technology participated in the annual career fair for these programs on Feb. 5 in the Polisseni Center. The students connected with industry professionals for spring and summer co-op opportunities and full-time positions.

Manuela Campanelli, left, Distinguished Professor of Astrophysics and founding director of the Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation, was recognized as the John Vorous Endowed Professor at a ceremony on Jan. 28. Vorous, right, was a former teacher of RIT alumnus Austin McChord ’09 (bioinformatics). McChord created four endowed professorships to honor his grade school teachers.

Irshad Altheimer, Ellen M. Granberg Endowed Professor, was the keynote speaker at Let Freedom Ring, an annual event commemorating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Altheimer’s talk was titled, “An Unjust Burden: Examining Disparities in the Criminal Justice System.”

Justin Au, a fifth-year RIT physician assistant major from Rochester, presented his graduate research at a student showcase held at Rochester General Hospital on Jan. 15. His literature review explored new ways to treat severe depression, including the FDA-approved ketamine and transcranial stimulation therapy. The research showcase promoted the RIT Rochester Regional Health Alliance, a strategic partnership between the two institutions, which provides learning experiences for students.

Sixty cadets from the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at RIT completed a four-hour capstone exercise on Nov. 23. The project required select cadets to combine their academic disciplines and leadership training to design, plan, and run the execution of a wargame scenario that would test their fellow cadets’ application of a semester’s worth of training. This simulation took place in the Cyber Range in the ESL Global Cybersecurity Institute.

RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering hosted junior and senior students from East High School on Nov. 20 to learn more about semiconductors, also referred to as computer chips. The students learned about etching techniques required for computer chip development. -

More than 300 veterans, family members, students, and community members attended RIT’s 13th annual Veteran’s Day Breakfast Nov. 8 in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center. The keynote speaker was Laura Heltz, executive director of the Veterans Outreach Center.

The men’s hockey team faced Bowling Green in front of a sellout crowd of 10,566 at Blue Cross Arena in downtown Rochester. The event was a highlight of Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend.
