International students from RITâs colleges in Dubai, Croatia and Kosovo traveled many hours and adjusted to several time zones to participate in the upcoming commencement ceremonies. They toured the RIT campus for the first time and spent time in the machine shop with members of the RIT Formula SAE team. -

Construction is moving along on the Vignelli Center for Design Studies. The four-story facility is expected to be completed at the end of May, with an official dedication scheduled for September. The Vignelli Center will house the entire archive of renowned designers Massimo and Lella Vignelli, whose graphic and product designs are icons of international design. -

Lisa Beach, wellness coach, takes RIT employee Nancy Drumâs blood pressure. The two have met regularly since January 2009 to assist Drum in her wellness goals. Drum lowered her blood pressure to normal ranges, developed and maintained healthy eating strategies and committed to a regular physcial activity program. -

Katie Stack, a third-year student in packaging science and a forward on the RIT womenâs hockey team, received the Paychex Female College Athlete of the Year Award at the Rochester Press-Radio Club Dinner on May 12. Stack, shown here signing autographs at an earlier game this season, is the second RIT female athlete to be honored by the Rochester Press-Radio Club. -

Jennifer Freer, library liaison to the E. Philip Saunders College of Business, and Corey Axelrod, a graduate student in the college, consult on information resources available as part of Mobile Library Help. Twice a week, Freer holds open office hours in the lobby of the Lowenthal Building. Students and faculty stop by for on-the-spot assistance with research, citation assistance and database trainingâone of many ways the library reaches out to assist the RIT community. -

Members of RITâs Triangle Fraternity raised money for diabetes research in an unusual manner. The sixth annual Bed Push was held May 1 with members pushing a bed all the way from Riverknoll housing on the RIT campus to Geneseo. -

Robert Garrick, associate professor of manufacturing and mechanical engineering technology/packaging science in the College of Applied Science and Technology, was awarded the 2009-2010 Richard and Virginia Eisenhart Provostâs Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award is given to a faculty member who has taught three years or less at RIT and is recognized for his or her pursuit of excellence in teaching and leadership in the campus community. Garrick â94 (MBA), who began teaching at RIT in 2008, had worked as a product team leader and research engineer at Delphiâs Technical Center in Rochester. His industry background plays a major role in his teaching by connecting theory with experiential learning for his students. -

Jim Vallino, who was recently named chair of RITâs Department of Software Engineering, is a recipient of an Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching for the 2009-2010 academic year. Vallinoâs unique teaching philosophy, one that requires students to share responsibility for their own learning, has earned admiration from his students and his peers. The award is named in honor of M. Herbert and Elsa Bausch Eisenhart. Mr. Eisenhart was the longtime president and board chairman of Bausch & Lomb Inc. and a member of RITâs Board of Trustees for more than 50 years. -

The RIT Formula SAE team unveiled its 2010 car May 1 at the Imagine RIT Festival. RIT, one of the top collegiate design teams in the country, begins its season with a trip to Michigan International Speedway May 12-16. Last year, RIT Formula placed second overall in the competition. RIT will defend its first-place overall finish in California June 16-19 and will compete in the Formula Student Germany event Aug. 4-8.
