RIT hosted the second annual Freescale Rochester Technology Symposium on Nov. 28. The event brought together researchers and students from around the world to discuss the latest developments in embedded systems research and education.

These images and memorabilia, currently on display in a new exhibit at the RIT Museum in Wallace Library, reflect RIT’s leadership of its nine presidents. The exhibit, which runs until March 2008, is in honor of the inauguration of Bill Destler as RIT’s ninth president.

Nate Kane, a fifth-year microelectronic engineering major, spent the spring of 2007 serving as a teaching assistant for an Irondequoit High School physics class. The service learning assignment was a component of the Department of Microelectronic Engineering’s community outreach program and funded through a National Science Foundation education grant.

Ferat Sahin, associate professor of electrical engineering, recently published Practical and Experimental Robotics, a guide to robotic theory, experimentation and construction for beginners, hobbyists and andvanced learners.

Students from RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences and Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences are putting on a theater performance in a virtual world in January. While they do a live performance, audience members will be watching from computers in another room. Students had a dress rehearsal of the short production called Critters on Nov. 16.

Zack Butler, RIT assistant professor of computer science, is a member of the U.S. Puzzle team that just won the World Finals in Brazil.

Matt Hamill, a 2007 RIT Sports Hall of Fame inductee, autographed cards for students, faculty and staff during a reception at NTID on Nov. 14. Matt “The Hammer” has won numerous awards during his wrestling career.

Jorge Uribe, an alumnus of the School of Print Media, and a plant manager at Avery Dennison presented “Print Productivity: A System Dynamics Approach” at the 2007 Symposium hosted by the Printing Industry Center at RIT on Nov. 14.

Today is the final day to view Pop-Up Books: An Interactive Exhibition in RIT’s Bevier Gallery. The show features works from top artists in the field including Chuck Fischer (The White House), David A. Carter (Bugs in Space) and Kyle Olman (Castle).

Robby Takac, bassist of the Grammy-nominated rock band The Goo Goo Dolls and the founder and president of Music is Art (a community arts organization) visited RIT on Nov. 9. He was here to attend presentations by senior graphic design students who developed corporate design packages for Music is Art and select one to implement.

The RIT Women’s Center officially opened its new space during a Nov. 8 ceremony. Dawn Soufleris, assistant vice president for student affairs, attended with her daughter Lizzie, 10, and examined the wall of archival photographs of RIT women over several decades.
