    Building progress has been rapid at Park Point, the $72 million retail and residential development at the corner of John Street and Jefferson Road. Apartments, restaurants, a bookstore and other retail stores will give RIT students and the Rochester community even more choices.

    The Journal of Applied Science and Technology was formally launched during a release party in Wallace Library Oct. 11. The journal, edited by Chance Glenn, is a peer-reviewed publication that is published by the RIT Press and supported by the College of Applied Science and Technology and Wallace Library.

    RIT Professor Emeritus Dane Gordon authored the second edition of his book, which chronicles the history of Rochester Institute of Technology. At a release party in Wallace library on Oct. 5, Gordon signed a stream of books and chatted with Dr. Douglas Merrill, Professor and Director of the Center for Bioscience Education and Technology.

    RIT Facilities Management Services treated students with flowering plants for their dorm rooms on Oct. 10. They handed out kalanchoe plants, along with care instructions, indicating they would survive life in the dorms.

    Volkswagen’s Dieselution Tour set up at RIT on Oct. 8-9. The traveling exhibit showcased new clean diesel and alternative fuel technology with interactive displays and some of their latest cars.

    A $1 million gift from American Packaging Corp. was announced on Oct. 10. The gift will fund the expansion of RIT’s Center for Integrated Plastics. The center will be renamed the American Packaging Center for Plastics & Packaging Innovation.

    Mark Indelicato (guitar), Warren Koontz (vocals/guitar/keyboards), Abby Berner (vocals) and Paul Harris (vocals and harmonica) performed during a celebration Oct. 4 marking the 35th anniversary of the College of Applied Science and Technology.

    RIT hosted the 2007 Entrepreneurs Conference during Brick City Homecoming on Oct. 5. This year’s theme, Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the New Economy, emphasized how digital technologies created new industries and changed the nature of competition among industries. David Sifry, founder and chairman of Technorati Inc., gave the keynote address.

    Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak attended the 10th annual Brick City Homecoming weekend as the Horton Distinguished Speaker. After his talk, Wozniak signed his autobiography (iWoz), MacBooks, iPhones and iPods.

    Rhythm and blues performer Rihanna kicked off Brick City Homecoming’s entertainment in the Gordon Field House Oct. 5. Rihanna, who recently released her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, topped the charts with her lead single, Umbrella, which was a collaboration with rap superstar Jay-Z.
