Designing a product with Autodesk

May 19, 2026

RIT industrial design BFA and MFA students collaborated with Autodesk to develop a project that was presented to a global audience at Autodesk University 2025.

With guidance from the software and technology giant, students designed the Autodesk MultiMeasure, which began as a sponsored project through the industrial design program’s annual T-Minus workshop. It then progressed to become a design with real-world application, as the tool was the featured Factory Experience product for Autodesk’s annual conference. The Factory Experience gives attendees a hands-on experience of the concept-to-production process of a select product.

The MultiMeasure is a compact, hand-held device that measures it all — color, angles, distances, and more. The tool combines a rotating arm with integrated distance and color sensors, a rotary encoder, and an LCD display for real-time measurement and feedback.
