A Simple Guide to Getting Care on Campus

Getting sick at college doesn’t always mean an emergency. But it does mean classes, assignments, and daily life suddenly feel harder. That could be a sudden illness, something that’s been lingering, or just a situation where you’re not sure whether it needs attention. As a student, especially if you don’t have a car or you’re new to campus, having a healthcare option right here on campus makes the process a lot less stressful.

Whether it’s a physical concern, a general check-in, or something you’d rather talk through with a professional before deciding what to do next, the Student Health Center is designed to be that first stop.

How I Scheduled My Appointment

If you're not feeling great, this is the part you want to be simple. Thankfully, it is.

Step 1: Start at the Student Health Appointments Page

On this page, you’ll see a section for scheduling appointments and a button that takes you to the RIT Wellness Portal.

Step 2: Log in to the RIT Wellness Portal

Once you click through, you’ll log in using your regular RIT credentials.

After logging in, you’ll land on a dashboard that shows things like:

  • Your health forms
  • Immunization status
  • Messages and documents

This page can look like a lot at first, but don’t worry, you won’t need most of it to schedule an appointment.

Step 3: Go to “Appt. Scheduling”

At the top menu, click “Appt. Scheduling”, then choose “Schedule Appointment.”

This takes you to the appointment search page.

Step 4: Select Student Health Center + Reason for Visit

On the appointment search page:

  • Select Student Health Center as the service
  • Choose your reason for appointment from the list

There are many options, including common illness symptoms. You’ll also notice some options labeled for Zoom/telehealth appointments if that’s what you need.

I chose the option that best matched how I was feeling.

Step 5: Pick Your Date Range and Time

This part is helpful if you want flexibility.

I wanted a same-day appointment, so I set the “From” and “To” dates to the same day.

If you’re planning ahead, you can expand the date range to see more available times.

Once you search, available appointments show up on the right side. You can then:

  • Pick a time that works for you
  • Select a provider from the list

Step 6: Confirm the Appointment

After selecting a time and provider, a confirmation message pops up asking you to confirm your appointment.

Step 7: View Your Appointment Anytime

After scheduling, you’ll see a confirmation message on the portal.

You can also go back to View Appointments anytime to:

  • Double-check the date and time
  • See the provider name
  • Cancel if needed

It’s all in one place, which makes it easy to keep track of everything. You should also receive an email confirmation from the student health center with what to expect when you get there.

Why This Process Helped More Than I Expected

When you’re already feeling sick, especially in unpredictable Rochester weather, having a clear, on-campus system makes a big difference. I didn’t need to call around, figure out transportation, or stress about what to do next.

I just followed the steps, picked a time that worked, and showed up, no extra hassle. If you’re new to campus, new to the weather, or just unsure what to do when you’re not feeling well, this is one of those resources that’s worth knowing how to use.
