Marc Fiore, president and founding owner of Mindex, a Rochester, N.Y.-based software development company, is the 2024 recipient of the Herbert W. Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Award.

An executive director who leads a marketing team that supports RIT Housing and RIT Dining and a Marine Corps veteran who is receiving his mechanical engineering technology degree next month have been chosen to receive prestigious public service awards from Rochester Institute of Technology.

This year’s Imagine RIT festival will have a strong international presence thanks in part to three teams from RIT’s global campuses who will fly to the U.S. to present exhibits. Teams from RIT Croatia, RIT Dubai, and RIT Kosovo won a competition to present their exhibits in the Gordon Field House. 

RIT’s scholarship program that provides City of Rochester graduates full-tuition scholarships and academic support is expanding its eligibility. The Destler/Johnson Rochester City Scholars program will now be open to students participating in the Urban-Suburban Interdistrict Transfer Program.

Hope Drummond BS ’91 is founder of Dreamseeds Children’s Program, is an RIT Trustee, and is being honored by Saunders College of Business.

Ekua Quagraine, a second-year international business major from Kansas City, Mo., is the current president of Women in Business. Under her leadership, the organization will resume its annual Skate for a Cause event on Feb. 18, to benefit the Malala Fund.

Rachel Romaine, a fourth-year international business and management information systems double major, received a $10,000 Award for Excellence in Business Commentary from The Executive Leadership Council, a preeminent membership organization committed to increasing the number of global Black executives in C-suites, on corporate boards, and in global enterprises.

Denishea Ortiz, executive director of Strategic Marketing for RIT’s Auxiliary Services, has been named a recipient of Rochester Business Journal’s 27th annual Forty Under 40 award. The award recognizes young professionals and future leaders for giving back to the Rochester community.

RIT’s Saunders College of Business will welcome Kevin O’Leary, aka Mr. Wonderful, star of ABC’s Shark Tank, as the 11th J. Warren McClure Lecture Series keynote speaker on April 8. The virtual event is open to the general public and will feature a one-hour lecture followed by a brief Q&A.

RIT’s partnership with Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), in India, has expanded to allow VIT students to spend the latter two years of their undergraduate business studies in RIT’s Saunders College of Business.

All Saunders undergraduate programs have technology built into the curriculum.

When students in RIT’s hospitality and tourism management clubs realized COVID-19 restrictions would prevent them from executing their annual Valentine’s Day fundraiser dinner, they decided to redirect their efforts to give back to the community instead.
