Fine Art Photography Option - Photographic and Imaging Arts BFA

RIT’s College of Art and Design hosted a dedication ceremony on Friday marking the recent completion of a “transformational” renovation of the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences and honoring the alumnus whose gift made it possible. The event honored Chance Wright ’18, ’19 and his mother, Pamela Mars Wright, whose $3.5 million gift fueled the renovation and reconfiguration of the third floor of Gannett Hall.

Equipped with newly-developed professional skills and materials, students from Ceramics, Fine Art Photography and Metals and Jewelry gained insightful feedback on their work from 11 artists to wrap up the fall semester.

Joe Matty '21 made the darkroom his second home as a Fine Art Photography student at RIT. He is now furthering his research and photographic explorations in pursuit of an MFA.

RIT's Schools of Art, American Crafts, Film and Animation, and Photographic Arts and Sciences are all under new leadership.

Renovation work inside RIT’s College of Art and Design—including key areas within the internationally recognized School of Photographic Arts and Sciences—is part of a five-year masterplan that has already begun to renovate, rejuvenate, and transform spaces to meet the growing demands for a college that serves as the university’s intersection of technology, art, and design.

School of Photographic Arts and Sciences Professor Gregory Halpern received the honor for the impressive breadth of his scholarly and creative work. 

RIT’s Creative Industry “Day” drew a wide range of talent seekers from companies such as Amazon, Forbes Media, and Microsoft last week, as the 16th annual event went virtual Feb. 22-26 this year due to the pandemic.

Students Devin Hull and Sophie Walter are using their creativity to expand ongoing digital efforts of the Genesee Country Village & Museum.

The $3.5 million project includes state-of-the-art editing labs and major upgrades to the student lounge and photography equipment cage.

"Alien Xmas," a 40-minute stop-motion animation special directed by Stephen Chiodo '76 (Professional Photographic Illustration), premieres Nov. 20 on Netflix.

A one-credit workshop allowed RIT students to examine ways of sharing more accurate depictions of a complex topic. The class culminates in an exhibition that opens Nov. 5. 

Sam Cannon '14 got innovative to account for COVID-19 guidelines for a recent New York Times assignment, executing a photo shoot with the Chicks all over FaceTime.
