RIT’s packaging science program recently received an equipment donation for its Packaging Dynamics Laboratory that will increase its academic and professional training options in safe-guarding shipped products.

A team of researchers that develops artificial intelligence systems is putting its work to a unique new test: creating machines capable of playing the popular video game Starcraft II. Researchers think it could be an important stepping stone to advancing practical solutions such as self-driving cars, service robots, and other real-world applications.

JayShaud Potter has taken advantage of studying at two university campuses, earning multiple degrees. His next adventure is the world of entrepreneurship, where he is developing a smart pillow to help the deaf community.

Gracie’s, the largest dining hall on the RIT campus, will go to all online ordering Monday as renovations begin to restructure its seating area. Orders will be prepared in the kitchen and can be picked up in the lobby of Grace Watson Hall, where additional seating will be added in the lounge, as well as in the lobby of Kate Gleason Hall and in a large, heated tent that will be in place just west outside Grace Watson Hall.

When Teknic challenged a co-op student team from RIT to produce a configurable, automated machine that would use its newest motion and I/O controller called ClearCore, team members responded with a robotic bartender that automates the drink-making process.

RIT students have the opportunity this spring to learn from professional artists in a series of free virtual workshops with Broadway performers and dancers. The “Broadway Comes to RIT” series will be held on Sundays, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. via Zoom.

NTID has received approval from the New York State Education Department for a bachelor’s degree program in community development and inclusive leadership. The new program will admit its first students in fall 2022

Intersections: The RIT Podcast, Ep. 44: RIT took home the top trophy at the Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition international finals in 2021, beating out student teams from 63 other schools. Team captain Sunggwan Choi, a fifth-year computing security BS/MS student, and Spencer Roth, a third-year computing security BS/MS student, share their experiences from the team’s win and discuss how the competition has impacted their futures in the ever-changing field of cybersecurity.

RIT Trustee Chairman Emeritus Colby Chandler died March 4, at the age of 95. Mr. Chandler served as Chairman and CEO of Eastman Kodak from 1983 to 1990, and served the RIT Board of Trustees from 1974 to 2021. He led the Board as Chairman from 1992 to 1994, and vice chairman from 1987 to 1991. He also chaired the RIT presidential search in 1992, leading to the appointment of Albert Simone.
