For the last several decades, volunteer groups have played a pivotal role in keeping RIT’s curriculum relevant and current with the latest industry trends. The groups of 10 to 30 leaders from a wide variety of companies come together a few times a year to offer their insights for RIT faculty and staff in nearly every college.

RIT requires all undergraduates on its Rochester campus to complete two wellness courses before they can graduate. There are more than 180 wellness course options, and the goal is for students to appreciate a healthy lifestyle that will last long after they graduate.

A team of RIT researchers is helping launch an experiment above the atmosphere to better understand extragalactic background light, which traces the history of galaxies back to the formation of the first stars in the universe.

Steve Hoover, who was recently named the Katherine Johnson Executive Director of RIT’s new Global Cybersecurity Institute, is bringing together academia and industry to help tackle the world’s cybersecurity problems.

Winifred “Winnie” (Gray) Bixler ’69 (art and design) and Michael Bixler ’69 (printing) run the Bixler Press and Letterfoundry, where they do Monotype typesetting, fine letterpress printing, traditional book typography, and offer classes in book arts.

Sometimes the answer lies within. In an effort to engage the more than 35 percent of undergraduate students who consider themselves “non-religious,” a new, somewhat nebulous group has formed at RIT to help them find secular answers for themselves.

The Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science became the only place in the world where students could pursue degrees in the interdisciplinary field of imaging science when it opened its doors in 1989. Thirty years later, alumni returned to campus for a celebration and interactive open house during Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend.

While attending the 2019 American Electrophoresis Society (AES) annual meeting at the Scix conference, Nicole Hill, a microsystems engineering doctoral student, received two awards for her research: The Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS) first place Poster Award and the Wiley Innovation Award.

The month of November is traditionally a time to think about what you’re thankful for. On Nov. 15, the National Day of Philanthropy, RIT will spend the day celebrating its generous donors during the Day of Thanks.

The app, known as MUSEAI, is a new self-guided tour platform designed to enhance accessibility for all visitors in museums. Visitors use the app by inputting a number that is placed next to the artwork, which provides them with the description, historical facts, media (video/audio) with captions, audio descriptions and more.
