As we all know, the weeks after Spring Break go by so quickly, and suddenly it’s time for commencement. There is much happening for the rest of March and through April into May. Among the exciting events are an evening with artist and alum Christine Sun Kim April 23, the NTID Student Research Fair April 24, and Imagine RIT April 25. You’ll find all the events in the “Save the Date” section below.

RIT recently announced 2035 Strategic FrameworkTransforming Lives Through Creativity and Innovation, which will guide the university in the coming decade. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to become familiar with the framework. Work on NTID’s  Strategic Journey is underway, and I look forward to sharing progress with the community in the coming months.

I’m excited to announce that the NTID AI Task Force has been established to discuss the future of AI and make recommendations for how NTID can lead the way in regard to tools in the classroom, academic programming, research, and employment, and provide guidance on how AI impacts deaf and hard-of-hearing people. The task force will focus on three major areas:

  1. Teaching and curriculum for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  2. Experiential aspects of AI embedded in deaf and hard-of-hearing student success.
  3. Research, scholarship and innovation to support deaf-centric AI, accessible technology, and AGI and its impact on the lives and careers of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.

I look forward to sharing updates on their work in the coming months. Learn more about AI at NTID, including upcoming AI-related events on our new AI at NTID webpage.

As always, thank you for all you do for NTID and our students.

Warmly,
Carrie
