There is much happening for the rest of March and through April into May. Among the exciting events are an evening with artist and alum Christine Sun Kim April 23, the NTID Student Research Fair April 24, and Imagine RIT April 25.

RIT recently announced 2035 Strategic FrameworkTransforming Lives Through Creativity and Innovation, which will guide the university in the coming decade. Work on NTID’s Strategic Journey is underway, and I look forward to sharing progress with the community in the coming months. 

I’m excited to announce that the NTID AI Task Force has been established to discuss the future of AI and make recommendations for how NTID can lead the way in regard to tools in the classroom, academic programming, research, and employment, and provide guidance on how AI impacts deaf and hard-of-hearing people. The annual middle school Regional Math Competitions have concluded, and the National Math Competition will be held on campus March 26-29, 2026. There are 250 students registered for spring semester Exploration Series programs, and we are adding ASL I to our Project Fast Forward non-STEM dual-credit course offerings.

DAS hosted an Open House for interpreting students from the Bachelor of Science in Interpreting program Feb. 13. Students met with professional staff interpreters, learned about employment opportunities, and asked questions of two panels—interpreting managers and current and former students.

Following the passage and signing of the FY2026 federal budget, NTID received the entirety of its second-quarter allocation from the Department of Education. We are grateful to the dedicated DOE professionals for their collaboration and swift action to ensure an uninterrupted funding flow for NTID, and for consistent bipartisan Congressional support for NTID.

CSS professionals continue to create popular courses on the ContinuED platform, and two SLPs were invited to present Practical ASR Tools for the Workplace to NTID’s Co-op and Career Center. This hands-on experience explores current automatic speech recognition and accessibility tools to consider for co-op students, alums and employers.

The NTID Center for Workforce Development supported “Disability Inclusion: What Works,” an all-day event on March 10 that included a panel of national and local leaders sharing practical solutions for building disability-inclusive workplaces and discussed partnerships that strengthen workplace inclusion.
