RIT undergraduates Jewel Amrich and Courtney Casteen in the College of Health Sciences and Technology are on the frontline of a national clinical trial focused on preventing the risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and stroke through lifestyle management.

RIT researcher Barbara Lohse, head of the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition, and colleague Ellyn Satter have rigorously tested and validated a common-sense approach to identify and prevent nutrition risk in children.

The gift from alumna and vice chair of RIT’s Board of Trustees, Susan Riedman Holliday ’85 (MBA), will fund the creation of a 6,000-square-foot fourth floor signature event space, comprised of a conference hall, reception gallery, and wine room–all featuring expansive views of the RIT campus.

Mia White, former standout player and captain of RIT’s women’s soccer team, has accepted an invitation to play in Europe for the Primera Regional Madrid league’s Sporting Club Madrid team, a pre-developmental professional academy formerly known as Football Academy Madrid. White will be the only Deaf player on the team.

Professor Bob Barbato joined RIT in 1979. Since then, he has taught courses in leadership, entrepreneurship, and business ethics in more than seven countries–first taking his wife and kids with him to Ethiopia on a Fulbright scholarship, and then to RIT’s international campuses in Kosovo, Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Beijing, and Dubai.

After graduating this year, Matthias Hausman, a mechanical engineering and international and global studies double major from Abington Township, Pa., will travel to Saxony, Germany, to teach English this September. As a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant, he will be placed in a German classroom to provide assistance to a local English teacher.

Emi Moriuchi from Saunders College of Business and Jessica Hardin from the College of Liberal Arts have received Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program awards to travel abroad and conduct research at partner universities.

Nick Renzoni, a management information systems (MIS) major and communication minor from Holden, Mass., is following in his grandfather’s footsteps. Like his grandfather and many of his RIT classmates, Renzoni has decided to pursue a master’s degree directly after completing his undergraduate education.  

The majority of the donation will support renovations to existing spaces in Max Lowenthal Hall, home of Saunders College. Classrooms and common learning spaces on the third floor will be renovated, as will a seminar room on the first floor.  

It’s been nearly 30 years since T.J. Griesenbrock first attended RIT. But he never could call himself a graduate because he needed just two more courses to earn his degree.
