On Thursday, Nov. 3, RIT’s College of Art and Design, College of Liberal Arts, and School of Individualized Study invites the community to a performance by Radical Reversal, a five-piece experimental poetry band.

A room in Slaughter Hall seats 150 students and is meant to simulate the learning spaces in the Student Hall for Exploration and Development (SHED) that will hold classes next fall. The Slaughter classroom, dubbed the “betaSHED,” combines three rooms to give professors and students a preview of the large-scale learning environment.

After a two-year hiatus, RIT’s College of Art and Design reintroduced the Charrette, a unique, weeklong design challenge in which students must create a wearable sculpture that communicated the idea of memory. In addition to other prizes awarded, the work of 15 students was selected to appear on the runway during Fashion Week Rochester, set for Oct. 13-15.

Constanza Berron, a Fulbright Scholar from Argentina, went to Ireland to present her research on the circular economy in e-waste management. Berron is a master’s student in sustainable systems.

An effort by RIT to encourage its students to become active voters has made an impact on voter registrations and resulted in recent national designations.

RIT has named Neeraj Buch as the new dean of undergraduate education and associate provost for student success. Buch begins his new leadership role Jan. 16. Buch joins RIT from Michigan State University.

RIT faculty are a resource not just for students, but for their colleagues as well. Now, a fellowship program will share their expertise through peer mentorship, training, and program development. The Center for Teaching and Learning Faculty Fellows Program launched this fall with eight fellowships.

Peter Hogya, a computer science major in RIT’s Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, was honored with the Herbert W. Vanden Brul Student Entrepreneurial Award at last week’s Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Award Luncheon at Genesee Valley Club in Rochester.
