A trio of trailblazing students who came to RIT from the university’s partner charter school will fulfill a long-term promise when they receive their college degrees at commencement this May. Zaid Abdulsalam, Ismael Cortes Jr., and Justice Marbury were among the first students to enroll at Rochester Prep High School, and they were the three students from the first graduating class in 2018 who chose RIT as their destination.

RIT students have more than 300 clubs and organizations to choose from today. There are also 24 varsity athletics teams and numerous intramural sports, among other groups. For many students, these extracurricular activities are a great way to try something new, find a niche, and build lasting relationships.

After going virtual for 2021, thousands of people came to the RIT campus on Saturday for an in-person Imagine RIT: Creativity and Innovation Festival, which featured more than 250 exhibits throughout the campus from more than 1,800 students and faculty.

 Good Day Rochester was live from the Gordon Field House and Activities Center to get a glimpse of the upcoming festival and preview of some of the 272 exhibits.

People planning to attend Saturday’s Imagine RIT: Creativity and Innovation Festival are going to be asked for proof of COVID-19 vaccination and identification. Masks are strongly encouraged but are optional except on shuttle buses, where they are required.

What started with a go-cart at Imagine RIT: Creativity and Innovation Festival morphed into an all-electric race car when Hot Wheelz began 10 years ago. On April 24, current team members and alumni will celebrate a milestone anniversary and take the next lap in its history showcasing plans for a new competition solar car.

A total of 272 exhibits varying from robots, virtual reality games, molten glass demonstrations, scavenger hunts, and performing arts are planned for this year’s Imagine RIT: Creativity and Innovation Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 23. 

Olivia Gallucci is a second-year computing security and computer science double major from Lancaster, Pa., with a minor in free and open source software and free culture. She holds executive-board positions for two clubs, regularly presents research, and has received multiple internship opportunities.
