Ceramics Option - Studio Arts BFA

The College of Art and Design welcomed 226 young artists to campus for its National Portfolio Day event, where prospective students met one-on-one with faculty about their artwork and different programs.

The College of Art and Design welcomes new hires to its faculty roster while longtime faculty Alex Lobos assumes a role as director of the School of Design.

Recent graduate Mikey Gambino ’23 (ceramics and industrial design) has been named as one of the 2023 Windgate-Lamar Fellows and received a $15,000 grant to fund his studio ceramic practice. Every year, the Center for Craft’s Windgate-Lamar Fellowship selects 10 graduating college seniors with exemplary skill in craft for the fellowship award.

RIT students created artworks to benefit Keeping Our Promise, a local nonprofit that provides resettlement assistance for Afghan, Iraqi and Kurdish interpreters and support personnel who served U.S. interests in conflicts and warzones. 

The RIT connections to the Rochester Museum and Science Center's newest exhibit can be seen in a reproduction of a painting by Professor Luvon Sheppard and a warship replica that Jacob Dambra '22 helped construct.

Developed and taught by Assistant Professor Peter Pincus, the course Josiah Wedgewood’s Legacy is a unique meld of art history, philosophy, and ceramics education and encourages students of all majors to explore and learn freely through experimentation and trial and error.

Mikey Gambino, a fifth-year student double majoring in industrial design and ceramics, is combining cutting-edge technology with the ancient art of ceramics. 

RIT's College of Art and Design faculty, along with those at 25 other top art and design schools, reviewed students' portfolios as they prepared their artwork for the college admissions process.

From the moment she placed her hands on a clay-spattered potter's wheel in high school, Marian Draper '22 was hooked. Shaping and forming her visions on a wheel became the gateway to artistic growth.

Nate Rohman, academic advisor for RIT's graphic design and studio arts BFA programs, will be honored April 12 at the Celebration of Teaching and Scholarship ceremony.

Equipped with newly-developed professional skills and materials, students from Ceramics, Fine Art Photography and Metals and Jewelry gained insightful feedback on their work from 11 artists to wrap up the fall semester.
