Looking to learn more about the roots of American deaf culture, fourth-year student Grace Bradford went on a study abroad trip to France. From June 24 to July 4, the ASL/English interpretation and School of Individualized Study double major traveled with other NTID students to Paris, Reims, La Balme-les-Grottes and Lyon.

The minor in applied cognitive neuroscience explores the biological underpinnings of cognition, delving into the science of the brain to understand the mental processes behind cognition and perception. The art of science/science of art minor shows how art and design can be applied in good scientific practice and how the sciences impact the materials, processes and perceptual enjoyment of the visual arts.

RIT is now a part of KEEN: Engineering Unleashed, a national partnership of approximately 50 universities that come together to advance engineering education. The group focuses on developing graduates who are technically prepared, understand societal changes and strategically seek opportunities to improve upon these changes.

More than 30 faculty and staff from 12 colleges across the country met this past August at the AITU Summit: Advancing Student Thinking for 21st Century Success. Organized and led by RIT, participants discussed how critical thinking is essential in today’s complex society.

Patrick Edwards, a second-year chemistry and public policy double major, was picked from more than 800 applicants to participate in the 2019 Station1 Frontiers Fellowship program.

The Saratogian features Keith Koster ’09 (applied arts and sciences), a three-time cancer survivor who recently completed the Centennial Challenge, hiking all 46 Adirondack High Peaks while carrying an American Legion flag to celebrate the Legion’s 100th anniversary.

Projects developed from the partnership include a summer data analysis capstone project for RIT students that will wrap up in the next few weeks, an innovation competition for RIT students that will launch this fall, and a research experience for students that will examine app interfaces for memory-impaired individuals. 

Under the new program, first-year students at Monroe, Finger Lakes or Genesee Community colleges can enroll to complete a bachelor’s degree from RIT. The students would attend RIT for their second year, and after completing that year, would receive their associate degree from their community college. They would then go on to finish their bachelor’s degree from RIT.

Cybercrime is costing the world trillions of dollars, and analysts say that there aren’t enough qualified professionals to prevent those attacks. To address this problem, RIT is creating the Global Cybersecurity Institute (GCI), aimed at meeting the demand for computing security and artificial intelligence professionals, while developing future technologies, protocols and human understanding needed to address the global cybersecurity crisis.
