A collection of interpretive dances based on children’s prose and poetry is featured in a new production by NTID’s Performing Arts department.

The RIT community will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with its second annual Let Freedom Ring event, featuring music, dance and excerpts from some of King’s most notable speeches. Performers include the RIT/NTID Dance Company, the RIT String Quartet and keynote speaker Greg Pollock ’12.

The program for RIT’s 37th annual Expressions of King’s Legacy event includes viral female tap dance band Syncopated Ladies and accomplished opera singer Kiersten Piper Brown. They will perform ahead of keynote speaker and CNN political commentator Tara Setmayer.

The unique blend of deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing students performing on stage together will guarantee theater-goers a one-of-a-kind experience at the debut of the Tony-award winning classic Cabaret at RIT.

As part of a university initiative that encourages its students to experience the city’s rich artistic community, RIT will partner with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and The Strong to make gaming come alive through music and art.

Four performances presenting an array of cultural, political and social issues are part of a new collaborative season by RIT’s College of Liberal Arts Theater Arts Program and RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf performing arts program.

RIT is a major educational sponsor of the community collaborative event, now in its seventh year, and will provide free shuttle bus service to and from campus during the festival weekends. All of the 38 RIT performances and exhibits are free.

Meet Tim Coon, a fourth-year software engineering major and member of the RIT drumline, Jazz Ensemble, RIT Pep Band and the newly created Game Symphony Orchestra.

RIT President David Munson said exciting changes are in the works in RIT’s revised 2025 Strategic Plan that will help the university get closer to becoming a top-50 university, yet unlike any other top-50 university in the nation.

RIT displayed its signature blend of arts and technology Thursday in an evening of entertainment centered on a major announcement about the university’s future: RIT is publicly launching a $1 billion blended campaign, the largest fundraising effort in the university’s history.

RIT students, faculty, staff and Osher members are part of an 11-day lineup of more than 500 eclectic performances in this year’s KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival, Sept. 12-22 in Rochester.
