A graphic designer and scholar from Tel Aviv has joined RIT to curate archived material that belonged to the designer who created the first Hebrew typeface family. Shani Avni is the Ismar David Visiting Assistant Curator at RIT’s Cary Graphic Arts Collection.

Michael Murdoch, an assistant professor of color science, received a prestigious National Science Foundation award to research how the human visual system perceives a mix of augmented reality and real-world content.

Gears make the industrial world go ’round. And RIT engineering faculty and doctoral students are working to keep them moving efficiently.

RIT recently received new electronics assembly equipment for its Center for Electronics and Manufacturing Assembly (CEMA). The university installed a DEK NeoHorizen printing machine, used by electronics manufacturers to precisely place transistors onto electronic circuit boards.

RIT recently installed a MIRTEC MV3 OMNI automated, optical inspection machine in its Center for Electronics Manufacturing and Assembly (CEMA). The equipment enables researchers and manufacturers to better inspect transistors that must be methodically aligned on printed circuit boards used in electronic devices such as smart phones, game consoles and computer systems.

RIT's endowed partnership with Genesee Country Village & Museum—which was established in September by a gift from RIT alumnus Philip Wehrheim ’66 (business) and his wife, Anne—is one of the ways students connect with the Rochester community.

The Mark and Maureen Davitt Graduate Education Endowed Scholarship was established with a $500,000 gift to RIT by Mark and Maureen Davitt to help graduates from the Rochester City School District pursue advanced degrees.

Carestream Health Inc. continues to support the education of sonographers at RIT through a new donation of ultrasound equipment valued at more than $1.2 million. This is the second donation Carestream has made during this academic year to RIT’s diagnostic medical sonography program, with a combined total exceeding $1.4 million.

Funding from the long-time corporate partner will support two innovative packaging centers at RIT: the American Packaging Corp. Center for Packaging Innovation, a comprehensive teaching, research and testing laboratory; and the Center for Sustainable Packaging. Both centers are located in RIT’s College of Engineering Technology.

RIT has selected Phillip D. Castleberry, a 20-year veteran of higher education advancement and fundraising, as its new vice president for Development and Alumni Relations. Castleberry, who is currently serving as vice president for institutional advancement at St. John Fisher College, was chosen after a national search. He begins his RIT duties on Feb. 1.

A program called “momentum” designed for students at RIT to develop their leadership skills while actively working to address community challenges has gained momentum, in part, due to a $250,000 donation to expand the program next semester.

The National Science Foundation awarded RIT’s College of Engineering Technology nearly $1 million to fund 36 scholarships for economically disadvantaged, academically talented students and to develop faculty programming to improve engineering technology education.
