Tom Connor, former vice president of creative marketing at Walt Disney Co., has been appointed assistant provost at RIT. In addition, Connor, an alumnus of RIT’s School of Film and Animation, has also been named the Paul and Francena Miller Chair in International Education and will serve as a professor of practice in RIT’s College of Art and Design.

Comics go to college—RIT opens Kubert Comics Lounge and Gallery
Comics fans have a super friend in RIT and a new place to pay homage to legendary DC Comics artist and educator Joe Kubert. The Kubert Lounge and Gallery opens to the public this fall at the Cary Graphic Arts Collection in RIT’s university library. Marvel Comics artist and RIT alumnus Adam Kubert ’81 donated his father’s archive to inspire young artists.

Croatia as a perfect destination for performing arts students studying abroad
This May, students from RIT participated in the Performing Arts – Global Music study abroad program. During their stay on RIT Croatia’s Dubrovnik campus, students took part in an intensive course called Studies in World Music. The course is designed to explore selected music cultures with an emphasis on music from Central and Southeastern Europe.

Game design course immerses students in Japanese video game industry
There was an extra two weeks of class for some RIT students who ended their semester with a trip to Japan. The trip was the culmination of a Japanese Game Industry course last spring, where students learned about the world’s third largest video game market.

RIT receives U.S. State Department grant to increase diversity in study abroad opportunities
RIT is one of 34 U.S. colleges and universities to be awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of State’s Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) Program. RIT received $35,000 for its initiative European Deaf Culture: A Pilot Program in Community Engaged Learning.
