RIT’s Relay For Life goes virtual this year for American Cancer Society
Relay For Life was preparing for its eighth year to benefit the American Cancer Society when the COVID-19 pandemic forced organizers to change plans. So instead of nearly 1,000 people participating in a 12-hour walking marathon in the Gordon Field House, this year’s Relay For Life will be a five-day online event that will provide entertainment, donation challenges, celebrations of life and more.

RIT wins Northeast regional collegiate cyber defense competition
A team of RIT cybersecurity students is moving on to the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (NCCDC) after taking first place at the Northeast regional competition March 20–22. The students pulled together a win, despite having to compete from separate locations across the country, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saler’s new 3D-printed shoes
Saler, a miniature donkey, received new, 3D-printed shoes this past weekend at Karen and Bob Pinkney’s Wychmere Farms in Ontario, N.Y. RIT biomedical engineering students were among the unlikely team brought together to help the 9-month-old little donkey whose tendons did not develop properly in his front legs.

The diverse talents of RIT students take center stage Friday night at the third annual President Munson’s Performing Arts Challenge. The competition, sponsored by Rochester Regional Health, is free and open to the public and begins at 6 p.m. in Ingle Auditorium.

College students who want to break into the computing industry can start at the upcoming WiCHacks hackathon Feb. 29 – March 1 at RIT. For the two-day hackathon, teams work together to create apps, websites, games and other software that provide unique solutions to problems.

RIT Esports wins Hearthstone Collegiate Championship
Students from RIT Esports bested more than 300 teams from across North America to win the 2019 Hearthstone Collegiate Championship Fall Finals on Dec. 14. The RIT student team took home the top trophy and $6,000 in scholarships for playing the digital card game Hearthstone.

RIT students win first place in thrill design competition
The coaster contest was a thrill ride for RIT’s Theme Park Enthusiasts student group at the annual Ryerson Invitational Thrill Design Competition. For the second time since the competition began, the club won first place overall at the competition.
