RIT welcomed 26 new students this fall through a program that provides tuition waivers as well as academic and social support to City of Rochester residents. The 12th cohort of the Destler/Johnson Rochester City Scholars program includes graduates from eight schools in the Rochester City School District and Rochester charter schools.

The $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has expanded RIT’s accredited Priority Behavioral Health and Clinical Psychology Internship program to focus on delivering integrated care for young clients who struggle with substance use, mental health issues, and trauma from exposure to high rates of violence within the community.

RIT is hosting African American, Latino/a American, and Native American scholars and artists from across the U.S. for a three-day virtual program to help them successfully navigate their career search process while getting a “behind-the-scenes” glimpse into life as an RIT faculty member.

Guiping Hu recently began her new role as the sustainability department head at Golisano Institute for Sustainability. Hu arrived on campus from Iowa State University, where she served on the faculty of the Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering department.

The thousands of students who belong to the more than 300 clubs and organizations at RIT face fewer restrictions this semester when gathering to play a sport, sing, dance, do community service work, or discuss common topics of interest. On Saturday, representatives from more than 230 of RIT’s student clubs and organizations attended the Tiger Activities Fair.

RIT has appointed Perry Ground, an educator and storyteller from the Turtle Clan of the Onondaga Nation, as the newest Frederick H. Minett Professor. The Minett Professorship brings distinguished multicultural professionals to RIT to share their professional knowledge and experience with RIT’s students, faculty, and staff for one academic year.

RIT Press turns 20 this year, and the future is bright for the scholarly book publisher at RIT. Expanded partnerships and community-related projects give RIT Press new momentum as it enters its third decade.

RIT has received the “Peace Corps Prep” designation, enabling its students to take certain classes to better prepare them for service in the Peace Corps upon graduation. RIT is the first university in Western New York to receive the designation, and the fifth in the state.

Students, faculty, and staff are starting a new year during a continuing global pandemic. But that’s not stopping the momentum of student success, research, fundraising, and building projects designed to make RIT even better. That was just part of the message RIT President David Munson told the university community this morning at his annual President’s Address.

The National Institutes of Health has awarded RIT the NIH Prize for Enhancing Faculty Gender Diversity in Biomedical and Behavioral Science. The prize went to 10 institutions that have acted to effect systemic change in gender diversity and equity among faculty members within their biomedical and behavioral science departments, centers, or divisions.

Tia Shipman earned her master’s degree in health systems management while working full time. The Health Systems Quality and Organization Learning class gave her a clear direction in a health care field crowded with possibilities.
