Marketing and MIS: Analytics for a Better Business

Learning analytics at Saunders College of Business puts students ahead of the competition and in employers’ sights. Both the marketing and management information systems (MIS) classes are up-to-date, industry-driven, and based on feedback from industry advisory boards. Students learn the rare combination of technical skills and business acumen mixed with the latest industry trends in data visualization and data-taming software. With a 95% career outcome rate, it’s clear that Saunders prepares its students for the world ahead.

Students in these programs have the opportunity to study abroad at any of RIT’s global campuses: RIT Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, RIT Croatia in Dubrovnik and Zagreb, RIT Kosovo in Pristina, and RIT China in Weihai. As RIT has one of the most extensive cooperative education* programs globally, students get real-world experience before graduation. RIT places more than 4,500 students with over 6,200 co-op assignments each year. There are opportunities outside of the classroom with 320+ clubs and organizations for networking in addition to one-on-one mentoring from select advisory boards, devoted alumni, dedicated professors, and driven peers. Students can receive institute scholarships in addition to state and federal financial aid.

Saunders Marketing Degree

Marketing students learn the latest industry trends and technologies in state-of-the-art facilities. In digital marketing, social media, and data analytics, students use advanced resources such as Marketo, HubSpot, Salesforce, Tableau, Qualtrics, Photoshop, and Google Analytics, in addition to virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality tools. In-class marketing projects involve actual companies, allowing students to create authentic marketing campaigns for real-world enterprises. This creative and experiential learning approach is a core value of Saunders’ marketing classwork, as it provides both valuable industry experience and connections while giving students an early chance to build their portfolio.

Outside of the classroom, students can join the RIT Marketing, Advertising & Public Relations Club and the Business and Technology Professionals Club to pursue passions alongside peers and mentors.

The MIS program combines critical business, technology, and design elements as students become experts in designing, developing, configuring, and managing IT-based information systems for businesses. State-of-the-art facilities along with data-visualization and data-taming software, including SAP, SPSS, Tableau, Python, and R, are embedded throughout the curriculum. Students learn how to harness big data through data visualization and analysis to generate managerial insights and boost profits and analyze real-world business situations. They then can apply contemporary project management techniques to develop innovative information systems in teams. With our practices, it’s only natural that Saunders management information systems ranks #2 in New York State by College Factual in 2022.

Business Exploration

Undecided? The business exploration program provides students with a chance to experience various fundamental business courses before choosing a focus. The Freshman Experience: Biz 1+2 is a cohort program that quickly exposes students to all business disciplines where they develop a business plan from ideation to creation within the first year. This prepares students for a wide array of careers and provides the potential for exponential career growth. Throughout the program, students work with RIT faculty, staff, and career advisors to determine the best choice of major.

Saunders College of Business Minors

Many students pursue minors or dual degrees, choosing from over 90 options across all nine RIT colleges, including game design, environmental studies, or one of nine foreign languages.

Minor in Business Analytics*

Students from any discipline and any of the nine RIT Colleges can select a minor in any of the undergraduate degrees. If you’re looking to dip your toe into the analytical sphere, Saunders offers minors in business analytics and digital business. Business analytics is designed for students interested in data analysis that supports business decision-making and enhances organizational outcomes. It’s a strong complement to any major. Digital business represents the impact of new technologies on business practice, products, and services.

Saunders Field Trip

If your school is close enough, we can invite you for an all-day field trip to Saunders College of Business at RIT. This is a popular activity where you and your students enjoy a visit to our campus that includes a faculty presentation, a tour of the RIT campus, and interaction with current students.
