RIT's Saunders College of Business is the host and a sponsor for the 11th annual Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Saunders College Competition. Young students compete in a Shark Tank-style competition for the opportunity to advance to the finals, where one student business will be named America’s Next Top Young Entrepreneur.

Three high school students working in a science lab for the first time made a surprising discovery with an RIT professor. Now, the young women are co-authors on a scientific paper announcing a rare bacterium that kills e-coli.

Rachel Coleman, musician and star of the popular PBS and video series Signing Time, will perform a free show at NTID on May 3. Joining her on stage will be Coleman’s daughter Leah, an industrial design major at RIT/NTID, and her show sidekick Hopkins the Frog.

A unique community collaboration among Saunders College of Business, Junior Achievement and local elementary schools introduces young minds to business, economics and free enterprise through discussions, hands-on activities and video lessons.

George Zion, a professor in the Department of Computer, Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering Technology, is being honored with a 2019 Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching for his ability to build bridges for students making the significant transition from high school to college to careers.

RIT student Chelsy Ray “pays it forward” each spring when she welcomes a new cohort of high school women to Saunders College of Business for a day of exploration, activity and networking. For the past three years, Ray has co-led the Women Leading Business conference, an opportunity for young women interested in pursuing degrees or careers in business to get up close and personal with professional women in industry.

RIT alumni and long-time supporters of FIRST Robotics, Dan Schneiderman and Joe Kessler, were recognized as the 2019 Regional as Volunteers of the Year during the FIRST Robotics Finger Lakes Regional competition March 15 and 16. Both were honored for their contributions to the organization and the regional competition, serving in a variety of roles from advocates and team mentors to field judging, set up and match coordination. 

High school juniors in the Rochester City School District are learning about careers in the law through a mock trial tournament sponsored by RIT and attorneys from the Rochester community.

In hopes of inspiring more area K-12 students to pursue careers in technology, RIT’s Women in Computing group is bringing technology workshops to Rochester city schools as part of the new RIT & AT&T Mobile Tech Lab.

National Engineers Week takes place this week at RIT, and the university will participate in the annual recognition of engineers’ contributions by hosting a variety of programming for those interested in learning more about what engineers do.
