A group of 36 girls entering the eighth grade participated in RIT’s annual Summer Math Applications in Science with Hands-On (SMASH) Experience for Girls.

As part of a growing trend in enriching engineering education, RIT has approved a new course in soft skills for engineers. The one-credit elective course, originally piloted in the last academic year, has been approved as a credit-bearing option for students in RIT’s College of Engineering Technology and will begin in September.

A therapeutic game called Space Adventure designed by an RIT class officially launched this month on the Rochester Society for the Protection and Care of Children (SPCC) website. The SPCC specializes in supporting families whose lives have been impacted by trauma.

RIT has become a destination for undergraduates from other institutions seeking summer research experience through a nationally funded program that connects students with leading researchers across the country. The Research Experiences for Undergraduate research symposium will be held June 28 in Louise Slaughter Hall.

Intersections: The RIT Podcast, Ep. 17: Science professor André Hudson mentored three area high school students, and their collaboration led to the discovery that a rare bacterium kills E. coli and B. subtilis. The group published their findings in an academic journal. Hudson talks with Kit Mayberry, RIT vice president for strategic planning and special initiatives, about what he learned about himself as a teacher and a scientist on the project.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will award two RIT faculty members a grant to map roadside infestations of five key invasive plant species in the Finger Lakes and Adirondack Park over the next two years.

Jure Ljubičić wanted to continue his education and was happy to see that RIT Croatia offered a US graduate program, Master of Science Service Leadership and Innovation. 

The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor took first place overall at the 2019 Baja SAE Rochester challenge, an international student-design competition that challenges students to apply classroom knowledge with real-world applications. RIT placed 10th overall among 100 collegiate race teams that took on a daunting motor cross field and four challenging days of competition.

RIT Racing and teams from Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Canada, India and the United States will field race cars, built by student-engineers, and test them on a track that will challenge not only the durability of the cars but the problem-solving capabilities of the teams during the 2019 Baja SAE Rochester World Challenge June 6-9.

Students, faculty, staff and alumni from RIT’s College of Art and Design descended on Manhattan last week for NYCxDesign—New York City’s annual celebration of design that attracts hundreds of thousands from across the globe—that included a memorable celebration on the iconic Sesame Street.

Sue’s Tech Kitchen, a STEM-Ed camp developed by Zuckerberg Media, will be offered through RIT's Camp Tiger program, formerly known as Kids on Campus, July 15-19, for children in third to fifth grade.

When RIT student Austin Obiora Okwudili accepts his diploma on May 11 in front of family and friends, he says that he will fondly remember his late father and the legacy he left behind—always encouraging his children to work hard, be positive, persevere and, most importantly, keep the faith.
