RIT launches European Post-High School Semester program to ease college transition
High school graduates who seek a self-reflection opportunity before fully deciding on and entering into college have a new alternative through RIT. The RIT European Post-High School Semester program allows recent high school graduates to use Dubrovnik, Croatia, as their home base while they take classes, conduct research, embark on excursions across Europe, and build friendships and mentorships along the way.

World Around You, a multilingual platform created by a team at NTID, is a Zero Project 2022 award recipient for its work to improve accessibility. The platform is one of only 76 awardees from 35 countries for the Innovative Practices and Policies prizes.

Team completes international aural heritage research and sound capture
Three researchers developed a set of tools using advanced augmented and virtual reality technology to preserve and replicate acoustics of historical venues. Their work was part of an international project bringing attention to the overlooked work in preserving aural heritage.

RIT Dubai hosts Sheikh Hamdan for the grand opening of new campus
RIT Dubai held a grand opening ceremony to dedicate its state-of-the-art new campus in the Dubai Silicon Oasis on Nov. 28. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, toured the facilities and inaugurated RIT Dubai’s new home designed for interactive learning along with RIT President David Munson, RIT Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration James Watters, and RIT Dubai President Yousef al Assaf.

International students who started at RIT remotely during the pandemic continue to thrive
More than 200 international students began their studies at RIT remotely in fall 2020, including 65 undergraduate students and 159 master’s students. RIT Admissions officials said the students have done remarkably well given the challenging circumstances, and 83 percent of those students are now studying at RIT’s campus in Henrietta.

Nippon Foundation awards NTID $500,000 grant for international partnership
A project spearheaded by NTID has received a $500,000 grant from the Nippon Foundation to create two Centers on Employment to support the education and employment of people who are deaf or hard of hearing in the Philippines and Vietnam.

Registration open for worldwide Mechanics Institute virtual conference
Registration is open for Mechanics’ Institutes Worldwide 2021, a free virtual conference on Oct. 15 honoring the 200th anniversary of the founding of the first Mechanics Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland. RIT's Corinna Schlombs and Liz Call will virtually join experts from around the world as they share knowledge on the start of the Mechanics’ Institute movement in the 19th century and what the movement represents today.

RIT working to support Afghan scholars who have evacuated their country
In the wake of the Taliban’s takeover in Afghanistan and the Afghan government’s collapse, RIT is collaborating with universities, nonprofits, and governmental agencies to support students and scholars who have evacuated the country or are attempting still to leave.
