Alexandria Shumway was selected to do research abroad over the summer through the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) RISE program, or German Academic Exchange Service. Through this program, the fifth-year bioinformatics and computational biology (BS) and bioinformatics (MS) student traveled to Kiel, Germany, to complete her research at the Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel.

Next spring and summer, as college students enjoy a well-deserved break from their studies, dozens of RIT students will be restoring hiking trails, helping preserve wetlands, rebuilding communities ravaged by natural disasters and, for the first time, interacting with community members to better understand issues such as food and social justice as part of the Alternative Break program.

Networking is the key that opens many doors to permanent or co-op employment, and it was on display in many ways at RIT’s Fall Career Fair.

Looking to learn more about the roots of American deaf culture, fourth-year student Grace Bradford went on a study abroad trip to France. From June 24 to July 4, the ASL/English interpretation and School of Individualized Study double major traveled with other NTID students to Paris, Reims, La Balme-les-Grottes and Lyon.

More than 260 employing organizations with more than 900 recruiter representatives seeking RIT students and graduates are attending the 2019 Fall University-Wide Career Fair, held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Gordon Field House.

RIT professor Linda Underhill will join the Office of Graduate Education for the academic year as Faculty Associate for Graduate Education. She will support RIT’s strategic goal to grow the university’s doctoral programs.

The popular KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival continues through Saturday, offering hundreds of performances and displays in downtown Rochester, including many showcasing the talents of RIT students, faculty, staff and Osher members.

RIT has received a $1.3 million gift to endow its partnership between the university and Genesee Country Village & Museum. The gift comes from RIT alumnus Philip Wehrheim and his wife, Anne. Wehrheim received a degree in business from RIT in 1966.

RIT students, faculty, staff and Osher members are part of the 12-day lineup of more than 570 eclectic performances during the KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival. The festival is a celebration of the performing and visual arts in more than 30 venues in downtown Rochester, featuring world-renowned performers as well as up-and-comers.

RIT is among the top third “National Universities,” earning praise for its co-operative education program and its graduation rate for students from low-income families, as well as its business and engineering colleges, according to the 2020 edition of U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges.

Vanesa Chiodo, a second-year museum studies student, worked as a public programs intern over the summer at The Strong National Museum of Play. Although she was only going into her second year of classes, Chiodo was eager to get some real work experience under her belt.

RIT is now a part of KEEN: Engineering Unleashed, a national partnership of approximately 50 universities that come together to advance engineering education. The group focuses on developing graduates who are technically prepared, understand societal changes and strategically seek opportunities to improve upon these changes.
