RIT students, faculty, staff and Osher members are part of a 12-day lineup of more than 500 eclectic performances in this year’s KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival, Sept. 10-21 in Rochester. RIT also is a major educational sponsor of the community collaborative event, now in its eighth year.

Award shines light on graduate education at RIT and the increase of graduate women
The Outstanding Graduate Woman Achievement award was established to raise awareness of graduate students and their accomplishments. This year's award was presented to Mireya Salinas, who earned her MFA this May and spoke at commencement as the College of Art and Design graduate delegate.

RIT hosts NSA-funded summer camps for teenagers to learn cybersecurity
RIT is helping the area’s sharpest young minds gain an interest in cybersecurity careers through free summer programs for middle and high school students. The Co-ed RIT GenCyber camp will be held July 8–12, while the RIT GenCyber for Girls camp will be held July 22–26.

RIT graduate co-stars in the film ‘Guest Artist’ with Jeff Daniels
Thomas Macias ’13 (applied arts and sciences) has made his feature film debut, co-staring with actor Jeff Daniels in Guest Artist. Guest Artist was originally written as a play by Daniels and turned into a film by director Timothy Busfield.

RIT Esports competes with best colleges in the nation at ESPN Championships in Houston
A team of Hearthstone players represented RIT and joined 20 other top colleges at the first-ever ESPN Collegiate Esports Championship. RIT became one of the top four teams in the country and the three RIT student players received $7,500 in tuition scholarships.

RIT ‘Hearthstone’ team to compete at ESPN Collegiate Esports Championship in Houston
A team of RIT students has become one of the best collegiate Hearthstone teams in the nation, making it to the ESPN Collegiate Esports Championship May 10-12 in Houston. RIT beat out nearly 500 other collegiate Hearthstone teams to get to the first-ever ESPN esports event.

RIT hosts 100 international collegiate racing teams for Baja SAE Rochester June 6–9
Teams from universities in the United States as well as Canada, India, Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela will compete for the Mike Schmidt Iron Team Trophy, an award given to the overall season champion. More than 1,300 student-engineers, who designed and built off-road vehicles, are expected for the event that will consist of hill and rock climbs, acceleration and maneuverability challenges and a four-hour endurance race.

Cybersecurity competitions help graduate land job at IBM’s X-Force Red
The main topic of conversation during Scott Brink’s co-op interviews was almost always about cybersecurity competitions. Luckily, Brink has thousands of hours invested in hacking competitions from his time at RIT. Brink, a 2019 graduate of RIT’s computing security program, credits those cybersecurity competitions and student clubs with helping him succeed in the major.

RIT Dota 2 team wins Grand Championship for second year in a row
RIT is silencing the doubters, winning its second Collegiate Starleague Dota 2 Grand Finals Championship April 28. The student team bested a bracket of North America’s 32 top universities to take home the $10,000 grand prize.
