Spectrum News features Deaf Culture Awareness Day at the Seneca Park Zoo.

Nearly 230 companies will visit the RIT campus on Sept. 21 for the university-wide career fair, and around 75 employers stay for the interview day on Sept. 22. The career fair will return to its original two-day format for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Monroe County’s Seneca Park Zoo, RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf, and Rochester School for the Deaf will hold the first Deaf Culture Awareness Day at Seneca Park Zoo this Saturday, Sept. 17, rain or shine.

Conflicting information about the safety of vaccines and how viruses spread in the community has created doubt, confusion, and debate during the global COVID-19 pandemic. But scholars are looking at how critical thinking techniques can help manage misinformation.

RIT faculty members Jennifer Bailey and Cynthia Tawaf were each named 2022 KEEN Engineering Unleashed Fellows for outstanding leadership in undergraduate engineering education.

RIT is part of a major national initiative that secured more than $63.7 million to establish upstate New York as a national hub for battery research and manufacturing. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer announced that Binghamton University’s New Energy New York Proposal secured substantial funding for the new hub, Battery-NY, which will include partners such as RIT’s Battery Prototyping Center and New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology.

RIT’s College of Liberal Arts and College of Science have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the RMSC to formalize a partnership between the institutions. Through the formalized partnership, RIT and RMSC will build upon and expand its existing collaborations to benefit both the RIT and greater Rochester communities.

The annual Rochester Game Festival will return on Saturday, Sept. 10, to RIT’s MAGIC Center. More than 30 developers, students, and faculty from Rochester and the western New York region will present their video games and board games for visitors to play.

Intersections: The RIT Podcast, Ep. 61: It all started in 1987 with a community project, a handful of faculty, and 37 students. Now, the RIT Big Shot is a larger campus tradition than anyone anticipated. Students in RIT’s Metaproject course will design and create seating solutions for international furniture company Lazzoni. Metaproject pairs RIT student designers with a client partner in what has become a seminal experience for the College of Art and Design’s nationally ranked industrial design bachelor’s program.

Jennifer O’Neil was recently named a KEEN Rising Star, an honor given to recognize a faculty member’s ability to improve student learning and to equip undergraduate engineers with the tools to solve societal problems.
